It's one of those things about this way that whenever you think you have reached the top of a hill - such as that final climb into Pietralunga - there is always another hill to conquer. Today was no exception.

Today was actually quite a quiet day. Unfortunately the weather once again turned to rain and some serious singing was needed to keep spirits up as the poncho went on - came off - went on again.

One of the interesting things about this way is the sheer number of houses that are losing their battle with nature. Living as I do in one of the most crowded countries on earth with a rapidly increasing population, it is always a bit of a shock to realise that in other places there isn't the same pressure to use any potential housing.

The rain started to get very heavy but fortunately there was a pilgrim friendly B&B a few miles outside of Gubbio in Loreto which was a good place to shelter and then stay overnight. The other guests were an Italian family who had come to see the famouse Ceri - they drove to Gubbio and returned a few hours later looking like drowned rats. Shame to have missed the spectacle but another 10km in that rain and the dark would have been miserable.
